BARRACKS OF THE CIVIL GUARD IN ÚBEDA
Located on the outskirts of Úbeda, Jaén, the new Guardia Civil barracks stands out for its accessibility through important communication routes. The design of the building seeks to integrate harmoniously with its surroundings, while reflecting a recognisable image of an “official building” that conveys security and friendliness in the housing proposal.
The layout is organized around an elongated two-storey residential core, complemented by a prefabricated concrete façade on the north side, which unifies and protects the complex. The main rooms are located on the south side, with large covered terraces that allow the enjoyment of the sun and connection with the garden.
The flexible design of the dwellings favours cross ventilation, natural lighting and privacy between them. A shared car park with capacity for 8 vehicles is located in the semi-basement, with vehicular and pedestrian access on the south side.
The official offices building, located close to the road access, has a ground floor open to the public and a semi-basement floor for services and parking. Its exposed concrete façade, together with the prefabricated false pillars on the north façade, unify the design.
The south façade of the dwellings is composed of a horizontal rhythm marked by the structural slabs and vertical openings protected by sliding slats. The compositional unity of the complex contributes to aesthetic coherence and optimisation of construction costs.
