PLAÇA DEL MERCAT DE PERE GARAU

This project focuses on the revitalization of the emblematic Plaça del Mercat de Pere Garau, where Brunet Arquitectes proposes a reconfiguration of the space to allow for better integration into the urban context. The market is expanded and reorganized to eliminate the “roundabout” effect, unifying the square and enhancing the civic axis. In addition to the spaces dedicated to the indoor and outdoor market, the project includes the construction of an underground parking lot with a capacity for more than 400 vehicles, a functional solution that frees up the surface for pedestrian use. The proposal introduces rest and recreation areas that operate independently of the market’s hours, such as an upper floor with children’s play areas and a relaxation zone for adults, equipped with shaded seating. This layout allows the square to become a versatile public space, addressing the neighborhood’s needs and promoting a more sustainable environment through the use of geothermal and photovoltaic systems that power the market’s services.
