ES CASTELLOT
It is an introverted house, where every corner is seen and felt, where the moments spent in each place are intense, and where the transition between places is also an interesting walk.
The way of limiting and annexing the exterior spaces in the house is of particular importance. The house is organised in four traditional volumes, connecting them in such a way that they form various courtyards and interstices resulting in very different places. The use of white for the buildings and navy for the courtyard walls defines the boundaries and characterises the environment. All the exteriors are a “sea of gravel” with “concrete islands” for different uses, and “sheets of water” to be seen and to be used. In between all this, shadows of wild olive trees and future vegetable gazebos.
The interiors are not neutral: the cross-section of each volume, the exposed slabs, the small windows “sculpted” into the walls, the combined woodwork, the sculptural scale, the combined lighting, the “trespols”, the limes in natural raw tones, the dressing room walls, the glass partitions… characterise every corner without the need to add anything decorative. The essential furniture to occupy each space, chosen as independent units, can even be used outdoors… all this defines a special, intense and diverse atmosphere.
The functionalist explanation is simple: a day area with an interconnected living/dining/kitchen area with a mezzanine for study; a parallel night area connected by the central access, occupied by three bedrooms, dressing rooms and bathrooms; and a service area connected by the north patio, occupied by the swimming pool terrace, toilets and machine room.
